StockTrace

On 1st January 2005, EU legislation regarding food traceability became law in Ireland. This places a responsibility on companies operating in the food industry to be able to provide information on demand regarding the source of any food product and where other products from the same batch were distributed and when. The company must also have traceability policies and procedures for product recall / withdrawal documented.

Business Software Solutions was approached by a number of companies involved in the food industry to develop a computer system to enable them meet their legal requirements while also enhancing their internal operations. The resulting system we developed is called StockTrace.

StockTrace is an easy to use system which operates on a standard PC. It has been designed for use by staff who are not computer literate. As well as providing supplier and customer traceability, it also provides process traceability (tracking the ingredients used in manufacturing food products), where this is required.

In addition to meeting the regulatory requirements, we designed StockTrace to eliminate the need for delivery books and remove the administrative workload associated with transferring information from these books into the accounting system.

A touch-screen option allows staff who are not comfortable using computers operate the system with ease. StockTrace also provides full stock control with the ability to identify where each and every batch of stock goes and how much was lost due to wastage / shrinkage.
 
StockTrace has been successfully audited by both the Food Safety Authority of Ireland as part of its "Labelling and Traceability Audit" and by the British Retail Consortium's "BRC Global Standard - Food" audit. The system was very positively commented upon in relation to its effectiveness and ease of use. It is in use in various areas of the food industry including bakeries, meat wholesalers, sandwich producers, preserves manufacturers, cook-chill manufacturers, etc.

We have developed a second version called QuickTrace to meet the needs of small-medium sized companies who are not involved in production processes. Both versions are very competitively priced.
